Founded by Sultan Salahuddin Yusuf ibn Ayyub (Saladin), the Ayyubid Sultanate abolished the Fatimid regime, reunited Egypt and Syria under Sunni orthodox stewardship, and championed the defense of Islam against the Crusader kingdoms. Following his legendary victory at the Battle of Hattin in 583 AH / 1187 CE, Salahuddin peacefully liberated Jerusalem (Al-Quds) without bloodletting, earning universal reverence across both Muslim and Western historiography for magnanimity, honor, and piety.
