Rubu' al-Islam (The Fourth Person of Islam) • رضي الله عنه
Rejected idolatry in pre-Islamic ignorance searching for the monotheistic religion of Ibrahim. Traveled to Makkah in the earliest days of revelation, met the Prophet ﷺ secretly, and asked: 'Who is with you in this matter?' The Prophet replied: 'A free man and a slave (Abu Bakr and Bilal).' He declared his Islam immediately, making him the fourth or fifth believer on earth.
“Amr ibn Abasah narrated: 'I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at the beginning of Islam while he was in hiding in Makkah... I asked: Who is with you in this? He said: A free man and a slave (Abu Bakr and Bilal). I said: I follow you! And I saw that I was the fourth of Islam.'”
