Dhat al-Nitaqayn (She of the Two Girdles), Mother of Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr • رضي الله عنها
Elder sister of Aisha and mother of Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr. The eighteenth person to accept Islam in Makkah. During the perilous Hijrah, she smuggled food and water across the dark desert mountains to the Cave of Thawr, tearing her waist belt in two to secure the provisions, for which the Prophet ﷺ gave her the title 'She of the Two Girdles in Paradise.' Lived to one hundred years with sharp mind and unyielding courage.
“Asma bint Abi Bakr narrated: 'I prepared the provision bag for the Prophet ﷺ and Abu Bakr when they set out for Madinah. I could not find anything with which to tie the bag except my waist belt, so I tore it into two strips. For this reason, the Prophet ﷺ called me Dhat al-Nitaqayn (She of the Two Belts).'”
