Sahibat al-Hijratayn (Lady of the Two Migrations), Respected Jurist • رضي الله عنها
Embraced Islam early in Makkah and migrated across the sea to Abyssinia with her husband Ja'far ibn Abi Talib, where she bore Abdullah, Muhammad, and Awn. Later wed Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (bearing Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr), and after Abu Bakr's death wed Ali ibn Abi Talib. Renowned for sharp intellect, hadith transmission, and expertise in Islamic dream interpretation.
“When some companions teased the Abyssinian migrants saying: 'We preceded you in Hijrah,' Asma bint Umais asked the Prophet ﷺ about it. The Prophet ﷺ replied: 'They have only one migration, but for you the people of the ship, you have two migrations!'”
