First Archer of Islam & Victor of Al-Qadisiyyah • رضي الله عنه
One of the Ten Promised Paradise and maternal uncle of the Prophet ﷺ. He was the first to shoot an arrow in the defense of Islam and was later appointed supreme commander by Umar to conquer the Persian Empire at the historic Battle of Al-Qadisiyyah.
“Ali ibn Abi Talib said: 'I never heard the Prophet ﷺ mention both his parents for anyone except for Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas, to whom he said at Uhud: Shoot, Sa'd! May my father and mother be sacrificed for you!'”
“The Prophet ﷺ made supplication: 'O Allah, answer Sa'd whenever he calls upon You.'”
