Khatib Quraysh (The Orator of Quraysh), Stabilizer of Makkah • رضي الله عنه
The premier orator of Quraysh who negotiated the famous Treaty of Hudaybiyyah representing Makkah. Embraced Islam at the Conquest of Makkah; upon the death of the Prophet ﷺ, when turmoil threatened to throw Makkah into apostasy, Suhayl delivered a thunderous speech from the Ka'bah that stabilized the city. Spent the remainder of his life in ascetic jihad in the Levant until martyred at Yarmuk.
“Upon the Prophet's death, Suhayl stood at the door of the Ka'bah and addressed Makkah: 'O people of Makkah! You were the last to enter Islam, so do not be the first to leave it! By Allah, this religion shall prevail until the sun rises and sets.'”
