Hibbu Rasulillah (The Beloved of the Messenger of Allah) • رضي الله عنه
Among the earliest converts to Islam and the beloved companion of the Prophet ﷺ. He was formerly adopted by the Prophet before the revelation of Surah Al-Ahzab, and is the only Sahabi mentioned explicitly by name in the Holy Qur'an (33:37). Appointed supreme commander at the Battle of Mu'tah, where he achieved martyrdom.
فَلَمَّا قَضَىٰ زَيْدٌ مِّنْهَا وَطَرًا زَوَّجْنَاكَهَا
“So when Zayd had no longer any need for her, We gave her to you in marriage...”
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ appointed Zayd ibn Harithah as commander at Mu'tah, saying: 'If Zayd is martyred, then Ja'far; and if Ja'far is martyred, then Abdullah ibn Rawahah.'”
