Prophet Zakariyya ﷺ served as a dedicated priest and prophet in the sanctuary of Jerusalem (Bayt al-Maqdis). He undertook the spiritual guardianship of Maryam bint 'Imran. Whenever he entered her sanctuary chamber, he observed miraculous out-of-season fruits provided directly by Allah. Inspired by this divine bounty, Zakariyya prayed quietly despite his advanced age and his wife's barrenness: 'My Lord, grant me from Yourself a good offspring' (Ali 'Imran 3:38). While standing in prayer in the mihrab, the angels announced the birth of Yahya.
« ذِكْرُ رَحْمَتِ رَبِّكَ عَبْدَهُ زَكَرِيَّا إِذْ نَادَىٰ رَبَّهُ نِدَاءً خَفِيًّا قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّي وَهَنَ الْعَظْمُ مِنِّي وَاشْتَعَلَ الرَّأْسُ شَيْبًا »
