Sultan Mehmed II (Al-Fatih)

Sultan Mehmed II Al-Fatih (رحمه الله) fulfilled one of the most famous prophecies in Islamic history at just twenty-one years of age. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ had proclaimed over eight centuries earlier: *'Verily, Constantinople shall be conquered! How wonderful is the commander who leads that conquest, and how wonderful is that army!'* Fluent in six languages (Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Greek, Latin, and Serbian) and a master of mathematics and artillery ballistics, Mehmed oversaw the casting of the monstrous 600-pound Urban cannon. When Byzantine iron boom chains blocked the Golden Horn, he executed an engineering miracle: greased wooden tracks hauled 70 warships overnight over the hills of Galata into the harbor. On Tuesday, 29 May 1453 (20 Jumada al-Ula 857 AH), his forces broke through the St. Romanus gate. Entering the Hagia Sophia, he prevented harm to civilians and guaranteed the religious autonomy of the Orthodox Christian Patriarchate.
